3rd BKC OPEN 2017 International Karate Championship

The 3rd BKC OPEN 2017 International Karate Championship was held by the Riau Islands BKC. First announced by the Telkom University Karate Student Activity Unit, the Telkom team immediately registered to participate in the competition, which took place from August 10–12, 2017.

The first day of the competition was the Kata class, with the Telkom University contingent fielding Angga Aulya, the Men's Individual Kata athlete. Angga played the Kankusho Kata and won 5-0, defeating the Malaysian contingent. In the second match, Angga faced an athlete from PB BKC and was defeated 5-4. The next matches were held in the beginner to cadet kumite classes, with no karate clubs sending any athletes.

On the second day, the first class was -50kg Women followed by Telkom University athlete Siti Zaenab Nurul Haq. In the first match, Zaenab fought against athletes from Satya Discourse Christian University and won. In the second match, Zaenab was defeated by athletes from Malang State University with a score of 5-4. With the same time, the -68Kg Senior Women class was followed by Telkom University athletes, Bella, the first match Bella won because the opponent fell, Bella advanced to the next match and was defeated by the Young Guns contingent with a score of 5-4. In the next match, the -60Kg Men's class followed by Farhan Fathir Lanang. Farhan against athletes from the Riau Islands bkc was defeated with a score of 6-3. The last match was the +84Kg Senior Men's class by Harry, in the first match Harry won against the Indian contingent with a score of 5-4. In the second match Harry lost with a score of 4-0.

The Telkom Karate Team brought home 2 bronze medals, won by Siti Zaenab Nurul Haq, 3rd place in the Senior Kumite -50Kg Women's category, and Anadia Salsabella, 3rd place in the Senior Kumite - 68Kg Women's category.
